Rugeley Phoenix Activities Club

The Rugeley Phoenix Activities Club.

Our Founder Len Westwood, whose foresight established the Phoenix organisation, sadly passed away in 1998 but his legacy lives on as the club has advanced well beyond Len’s aspirations. We have progressed from a handful of members pursuing a few activities, to a thriving organisation with over 500 members attending a comprehensive range of physical, artistic and social activities.

The club prospers because it fulfils the needs of a mostly retired age group who are still actively minded. Thanks to many members who have voluntarily devoted unlimited time and effort we run an extensive range of activities to cater to a wide audience. Moreover, the regular frequency, mostly weekly for our activities allows people to meet and make friends whilst enjoying a favourite pastime. What better way is there to develop often lasting friendships and avoid being socially isolated.

Although the club has been located in various venues around the town, we are now very fortunate to have most of our activities at Sheepfair Community Centre which provides us with a very pleasant headquarters which is a second home to many. Hard work to secure some vital lottery funding and the support from the Adult and Community Learning has helped to establish a sound financial footing and as a result of this our membership and activity fees have been kept remarkably low.

An immense vote of thanks is owed to all who have, and those who still continue to contribute to the success of this amazing club.
