Special General Meeting- August 2021

A Special General Meeting was held at Sheepfair on Tuesday 10th August 2021, to discuss when it would be feasible to hold our AGM. Twenty-five Phoenix members, which included Officers of the Committee, Committee Members, Activity Leaders, and Phoenix members, were in attendance.

After discussion, it was decided by a unanimous vote that the AGM be held in January 2022. At the AGM officers of the committee, Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary will be appointed.      Nominations for these positions should be submitted by the end of December 2021.

It was also decided at the meeting that allows for the loss of 5 months of activities the renewal of membership should be delayed until January 2022. The Membership Secretary will issue new membership forms to Activity Leaders in December 2021. The new membership registrations will start from scratch and every member will be issued with a new membership number. All members present voted unanimously in favour of this.

Kind Regards                                                                                                                                                         Sue

Latest Phoenix update. – June 2021

Hi All,                                                                                                                                                                             Firstly, can I say a big thank you to all leaders who informed me of their
proposed start date. So it’s with a heavy heart that I write
this mail saying we are going to defer the start date until July 19th 2021. As
you know this is in accordance with the government guidelines. We are all eager
to return and carry on with the ethos of Phoenix, companionship, keeping body
and brain active but most importantly enjoying ourselves with friends. So look
forward to week commencing 19th July 2021 when we can all start enjoying
ourselves once again.

Kind Regards – Sue

Announcement from Rob Cross

Good Morning,

I do hope you are well.

Phoenix member Rob Cross has asked me to pass on the very sad news that his wife of 55 years, Margaret, has passed away, suffering complications with her Motor Neurone disease.

The funeral takes place on Tuesday 1st September 2020. As a result of the restrictions at funerals at the moment, the funeral will be recorded and will be available live or soon afterwards for up to 28 days.

there is a link to this below and also to the donations page (MNDA) set up as a tribute to Margaret’s life.

Margaret requested no flowers and asked instead for donation to the Motor Neurone Association.

In advance of the service please try the link below and sign in, as there is a test screen to make sure you can access the page correctly. News update April 2020

Helping our Nurses

Ann Nunn has sent me a message that one of the ladies in
Colton is making bags for nurses to put the dirty uniforms
in, so that, when they get home, the bags can simply be put
in the washing machine. Pillowcases are needed and perhaps
other fabrics that members have.
It was mentioned on Radio WM on the Caroline Martin’s
show a few days ago.
So, Ann is wondering how many pillowcases and other
materials might be available from Phoenix members.
Ann will ask the lady making the bags if she is prepared to
give her a contact number so that materials can be
delivered to her. Alternatively, if people have no transport,
then perhaps a collection point in Rugeley from which Ann
would be happy to collect.
Let us know if you can help.

Contact to the isolated March 2020

Good Afternoon,
We are looking at ways to keep in touch with each other!-
These are Sue Breen’s thoughts as an isolated Phoenix member!

The Thoughts of an Isolator
Today’s todo list
Shave legs – The forestry commission will be proud of me.
Pluck eyebrows – First I’ve got to find them🤣 (Does that count as another job?)
Sort out knicker draw – sort in colour and size, grey is the in colour at the moment so those old white ones are now in fashion. (Could be keepers)
Clean oven – This thankfully was just a passing thought Phew it’s passed
Learn a language- My husband says I’m doing really well at this, he reckons I’m using words he’s never heard before🤣
The most important thoughts of the day have got to be :
What can I eat next
How long until lunchtime
I’m really looking forward to dinner tonight
Surely it’s got to be ok to open a bottle of wine at 6 o’clock.
Love Sue x

Group News – March 2020

Phoenix Inter-Group Quiz
Rugeley Phoenix Club flew the flag at an inter-group quiz last week, with
a team of four competing at Gnosall against other Phoenix clubs in our
federation. Last year ‘Tom’s Angels’ brought home the winner’s trophy,
this time it went elsewhere, but it was still a good afternoon with some
delicious homemade cakes at the interval. As a newcomer to the team,
and actually the quiz itself, I was very impressed with how well
everything was organised to make the event run so seamlessly and
smoothly. There had obviously been weeks if not months of preparation
and checking and it paid off. Thanks to fellow team-mates Jennie and
Tom Lee and Moira Montero, I really enjoyed being part of it.
